ActionSA candidates unveil bold plans for KZN municipalities ahead of 2026 elections
Three ActionSA mayoral candidates for KwaZulu-Natal municipalities spoke of their intentions ahead of the 2026 Local Government Elections on Saturday.
Zwakele Mncwango was nominated for eThekwini Municipality. He is currently the provincial chairperson of ActionSA. Mncwango said he has a ten-point plan to fix eThekwini. One of them is to insource essential municipal services that won’t rely on contractors.
He intends to conduct lifestyle audits on all councillors and protect whistleblowers. He took a swipe at the failed Go! Durban project. He said a summit with all stakeholders and transport experts will be convened within 30 days to identify delays and agree on practical solutions. According to Mncwango, he would not commit further funding until a full audit is conducted. He said public transport is very important.
“Many residents wake up to dry taps, unemployment and crime. I place residents before politics. We will ensure every community receives quality services. Every rand saved from corruption is invested back into the community,” he said.
Halalisani Ndlovu, nominated for the KwaDukuza Local Municipality, said people have waited far too long for a working municipality.
According to Ndlovu, he has seen KwaDukuza from two perspectives: as a councillor and as a resident.
“I have seen how budgets are allocated, and projects are delayed. Outside, I have met with people who are at the end of these governance failures. The world inside the government and the world outside are too far apart. Too many people accepted poor service delivery as the norm. We have lowered our expectations of what local government should be. The problem has never been the people but the leadership,” Ndlovu said.
Zwe Nxumalo, nominated for the Newcastle Local Municipality, said he intends to liberate the people from corruption, as the industrial town has seen too many job losses and service delivery problems.
ActionSA President Herman Mashaba said the problems will be resolved by South Africans during the elections. Mashaba said there was no reason why people needed to live in squalor.
He said the mayoral candidate announcement marks an important milestone in ActionSA’s campaign to present credible leadership, practical solutions, improved service delivery, restored public trust and sustainable economic growth across KZN
“Politicians are your servants; we work for you. If a councillor fails, we will kick them out. If ActionSA councillors are involved in corruption, they will be fired immediately. Residents in the province have lived among the worst corruption ever,” he said.
