A sorrowful Christmas is looming for Limpopo following the death of Meida Ramuhala, a cancer survivor who previously underwent surgery for a mandibular odontogenic tumour, medically known as ameloblastoma.
Limpopo Premier, Dr Phophi Ramathuba, confirmed the incident and expressed deep sadness and shock at her death.
Ramuhala, 42, was found dead on Sunday morning, 21 December 2025, at her sister’s residence in Ha-Mudimeli village in the Nzhelele area, police said.
Limpopo police confirmed the incident and said the body was discovered at about 8am.
Police and Emergency Medical Services were called to the scene, where Ramuhala was found lying on the ground at her aunt’s residence.
Police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba said officers observed that the deceased had sustained serious injuries to her upper body.
“Preliminary investigations revealed that the deceased was last seen leaving a tavern in the company of a male person,” Ledwaba said.
He said Mphephu police have opened a case of murder.
No arrests have been made and investigations are continuing.
Anyone with information is urged to contact the investigating officer, Sgt Tshifhiwa Khwilimba, on 079 580 4838 or 082 319 9558, report to their nearest police station, call Crime Stop on 08600 10111, or use the MySAPS app.
Meanwhile, Ramathuba described Ramuhala as a resilient and courageous woman whose life touched many.
Ramuhala was a beneficiary of the Rural Health Matters Outreach Programme after presenting with an ameloblastoma.
After the life-changing surgical procedure on May 27, 2021, Ramathuba, then MEC for Health, facilitated the construction and furnishing of a house for Ramuhala and her family.
The premier said the intervention restored Ramuhala’s dignity and gave her and her only daughter renewed hope and stability.
“We are deeply saddened by this brutal and heartless act committed against Ms Ramuhala during a time when families should be coming together to celebrate life,” Ramathuba said.
“Instead, someone chose violence and cruelty, robbing a mother and daughter of their future.
“We call on law-enforcement agencies to act with speed and diligence to ensure that the perpetrator is brought to book and faces the full might of the law.”
Ramathuba conveyed her heartfelt condolences to the Ramuhala family, relatives and the community of Ha-Mudimeli village.
