Hoodlums have vandalised the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN) office in Idofian in Ifelodun LGA of Kwara State.

The attack was said to have been carried out around 4am on Tuesday by four vandals who rode on two motorbikes.

Wasiu Zubair, one of the guards on duty at the office, said, “They arrived around 3am. They asked how many of us were around, they tied me up, beat me seriously and collected my phone.

“They then vandalised the station’s armoured cables and stole other valuables which has caused Harmony FM 103.5 to shut its operations.

Speaking on the incident, Assistant Director of Programmes, who represented the General Manager of the station, Hajia Binta Abubakar Mora, expressed displeasure over the attack.

She said, “This is a great threat coming after recent incidents in our Lokoja and Lafia stations.

“As it is now, we are off air. The affected armoured cables are very expensive. What it will take to fix this is something that has become a burden on the management.”

“However, the lives of our staff who were on duty when the incident happened are worth more than whatever they have damaged.”

Mora, who expressed concern about the location of the station, called on the Nigerian government to come to their aid to enable them to resume operation.

She noted that, “Our location is unfriendly, isolated and in total darkness. If you come here after 6pm you will worry for those who work here. Government needs to assist us and help to fortify our security architecture.

“Majority of FRCN stations are located outside state capitals. We need a lot of security here and stable electricity to check criminals.”
