FIFA investigates alleged racist abuse of YouTuber iShowSpeed during World Cup match
FIFA has confirmed that it has launched an investigation after popular streamer and YouTuber IShowSpeed was allegedly subjected to racist abuse by a spectator during the FIFA World Cup.
The incident occurred during the Argentina vs Cabo Verde match at Miami Stadium on July 3, where the online personality, whose real name is Darren Watkins Jr, was attending the tournament.
Videos circulating on social media appear to show a fan making racist gestures and noises in Speed’s direction while he sat in the stands. The clips quickly went viral, sparking widespread outrage online and prompting calls for FIFA to take action.
In a statement released on social media, FIFA condemned all forms of discrimination and confirmed an investigation had been opened.
“FIFA strongly condemns racism, hate and discrimination in all forms. These actions have no place in football, at the FIFA World Cup, or anywhere in society.”
The governing body added:
“FIFA was made aware of an incident involving a supporter and #IShowSpeed at Miami Stadium during the Argentina vs Cabo Verde match on 3 July 2026 and immediately initiated an investigation.”
Reaffirming its stance against racism, FIFA said the World Cup should remain a celebration of inclusion.
“The FIFA World Cup is a celebration of unity, diversity and respect. It brings together people, cultures and communities from around the world, and anyone who acts in a manner that undermines these values is not welcome in our game.”
Speed has become one of the biggest internet personalities in the world, with millions of followers across YouTube and other social media platforms. He has also become a familiar face at major football events, regularly attending international matches and collaborating with some of the sport’s biggest stars.
The alleged abuse has reignited conversations around racism in football, despite years of campaigns aimed at eliminating discriminatory behaviour from stadiums worldwide.
FIFA has not yet announced whether any disciplinary action has been taken against the supporter involved, saying the matter remains under investigation.
The organisation has consistently maintained a zero-tolerance approach to racism and discrimination, with sanctions available against individuals found guilty of such conduct.
