9/18: South Africa- Johannesburg- Class of 22 results – 18 January 2023. The much anticipated results for the matric class of 2022 IEB is released and Marist Brothers Linmeyer school in the south of Johannesburg has a 100% pass and 182 distinctions to celebrate. This has been the best results and as principal Regan Nicholas puts it ” It was combined work from both learners, teachers and parents” . The IEB has registered over 98% pass even though the class of 22 had to endure the learning challenges of Covid such as online or distant learning and the limited time spent with teachers face to face. The spirits of ex leaders is high as they share hugs and high 5 celebrating their own success as well as that of the school. Zoe Raynard celebrates her pass. 10/18: South Africa Johannesburg Plane down 15 January 2023. An aircraft caring two occupants crashed into a mine tailing at Nasrec neat the FNB stadium on Sunday morning. The aircraft that was on a training flight from Grand Central airport crashed shortly before 9am fatally wounding both according to the SACAA and the ARCC. 17/18: South Africa – Cape Town – 17 January 2023 – Deputy chairperson of Operation Dudula, Lulamile Bavuma and three other members, held a picket at the Metro North Education District Offices in Parow where hundreds of parents tried to register their children for the 2023 school year. Anti-immigration group, Operation Dudula, has called on the Western Cape Education Department to put South African student’s needs above those of migrant workers in the education system and children of illegal immigrants. With only a day before Western Cape schools re-open for the 2023 academic year, parents, educators and the Western Cape Education Department (WCED) are frenziedly rushing to find placement for some learners, with many schools already filled to the brim and more late applications expected.
