Reports in South African media circles indicate that Malawi National Football Team star Gabadinho Mhango is going into music and will release a song titled “Mr. Negative”.
According to South African online soccer publication KickOff, Mhango will release the song with fellow countryman Goshen Boy.
KickOff quotes a response on the Moroka Swallows star’s official TikTok account where he tells a fan: “You gonna see me become a musician sister.”
Mhango posted part of the song on the account where he is seen featuring prominently on adlibs and the chorus.
“Mhango has been teasing the idea of moving onto music, as a glance at some of his social media content shows that he has also been learning how to become a DJ. With many friends in the entertainment space, it seems like the music bug has bitten as well.
“It appears the player’s stage name is simply Gaba and he seems quite excited for the official release. The song is sung in the former Orlando Pirates forward’s mother tongue and features a melodic afro-pop sound that many of his fans are already impressed by already,” part of a KickOff report reads.
The report states that it is possible that Mhango’s career will not be fully unleashed until he has more time to spend in the studio cooking some fresh jams as his Swallows contract runs up to June 2025.
“However, it is quite possible to juggle both a soccer and music career as AC Milan talisman Rafael Leao and Everton midfielder Amadou Onana seem to be handling their two passions very well,” it reads.
Meanwhile, the publication has also reported that Flames coach Patrick Mabedi has demanded an apology from Mhango if he wants to return.
“He was invited to join the team here on Sunday and he went late to the airport and missed his flight. He was asked by the technical team to do some recovery sessions and send them to our physical trainer but he never did, yet his game was played on Saturday.
“If he obeys the technical team rules, yes he will be welcomed back and apologise to the technical team and to Malawians. He let the country down,” KickOff reported.
