The launch of the long awaited National Netball League which was scheduled for today at Griffin Saenda Sports Complex has been shifted to a later date as the venue is not fully completed.

The facility hosted netball, volleyball and basketball games during the just ended 2022 African Union Sports Council (AUSC) Region 5 Games in Lilongwe.

In a statement released on Thursday, Netball Association of Malawi (Nam) said the launch has been shifted as the venue has been handed back to the contractor for completion.

“Nam and Salima Sugar regret to announce the postponement of the official launch. Nam will soon advise on the new date and venue for the launch,’’ reads part of the statement signed by Nam president Abigail Shariff.

The postponement also comes as a relief to some who questioned the timing of the event which would have collided with the Airtel Top 8 Cup final between Nyasa Big Bullets and Mighty Mukuru Wanderers at Bingu National Stadium.

Salima Sugar Company Secretary Charles Thupi was not readily available for a comment Friday.

The company announced the K40 million sponsorship during the Sports Indaba held in Lilongwe in September.

Nam had been without a sponsor of national league for more than four years.

Apart from netball, the company is also sponsoring Dedza Dynamos Salima Sugar.
