Today’s weather: Severe storms hit north-east SA as weather turns dangerous

Residents can expect cool to warm conditions with widespread thunderstorms in parts of the north-east on Tuesday, according to the South African Weather Service (SAWS).

SAWS has also warned of severe thunderstorms, damaging winds, storm surge and rough seas along parts of the eastern coastline, particularly affecting the north-eastern regions.

This is what you can expect

In the North-eastern parts of South Africa, forecasts indicate widespread showers and severe thunderstorms, with risks of damaging winds, heavy rain and coastal storm surge conditions

In the interior regions (Gauteng, Free State, Limpopo), expect partly cloudy and cool to warm, with isolated to scattered thunderstorms.

In the Western Cape, expect cooler and stable conditions, with Cape Town staying mild at around 17°C.

Those on the KwaZulu-Natal coast, may experience warm and humid weather with 28°C in Durban, but weather conditions may become unstable near the coast.

SAWS has also highlighted the potential for severe weather impacts in the north-east, including damaging winds, heavy downpours and localised flooding and rough seas and storm surge along coastal areas.
