Male traders in Lagos markets have been warned over sexual nuances towards female customers and traders in the market.
The manager, project and Lagos field office, ActionAid Nigeria, Vivian Efem-Bassey, gave this advice at Arena market in Oshodi, during the group’s market sensitization to commemorate the 16 Days of Activism to end violence against women and girls.
She opined that some male traders in an attempt to seek patronage of female customers, inadvertently harass them, advising market leaders to establish policies so as to prevent violence against women.
“The market establishment needs to invest in ensuring that the market is a safe place for women who are traders and those who are coming to purchase items,” she said.
She added that the campaign is aimed to educate, inform, and engage the public on the contribution they can make to ensure that violence against women and girls is reduced in their various communities.
