Transnet blacklists seven companies after corruption probes, employees face disciplinary action
Transnet Port Terminals (TPT) has blacklisted seven companies and launched disciplinary action against employees accused of being involved in corruption and other serious misconduct following forensic investigations.
The companies have been placed on the National Treasury’s restricted supplier list, preventing them from doing business with Transnet and other public entities for the next 10 years.
This comes after forensic investigations, supported by the Special Investigating Unit, uncovered alleged financial misconduct, bribery, kickback schemes, collusion, theft of company assets and the submission of false information involving suppliers and Transnet employees.
TPT Chief Executive Jabu Mdaki said the company would not tolerate any conduct that undermines good governance, transparency and accountability.
“Transnet Port Terminals remains committed to upholding the principles of good governance and conducting its business with the highest standards of integrity, transparency and accountability. Unlawful conduct will not be tolerated under any circumstances,” he said.
Mdaki said TPT was also working with relevant entities to recover company funds lost through unlawful activities involving the implicated individuals.

“Through collaboration with relevant entities, TPT was working to recover all embezzled company monies from the implicated individuals”.
Transnet also said it was continuing with investigations across its operating divisions, adding that earlier this week, “Transnet Rail Infrastructure Manager (TRIM) suspended four employees based on similar allegations. Additionally, restrictions against implicated suppliers at TRIM are also proceeding”.
“Earlier this year, Transnet announced the suspension of nine employees implicated in alleged collusion with suppliers. Six of these employees have now left Transnet’s employment because of disciplinary action instituted against them. Disciplinary proceedings against the other employees are still in progress”.
Transnet has also appealed to members of the public to report any suspected fraud or irregularities involving the company through its designated whistleblowing channels.
“While the consequence management processes are proceeding, Transnet is also implementing systemic improvements to detect and prevent the recurrence of such malfeasances”.
