A 26-year-old man was killed and another was wounded in a drive-by shooting in Salt River, Cape Town, on Wednesday night.
Three people have since been arrested.
Police spokesperson Constable Ndakhe Gwala said a group of men were sitting at the corner of Burns and Pope street when a white Bantam bakkie stopped and occupants opened fire.
Two victims, aged 26 and 27, were struck before the vehicle fled.
Both men were transported to a medical facility, where the 26-year-old succumbed to his wounds.
“Woodstock police responded to reports of a shooting at the corner of Burns and Pope Street, Salt River at around 10.40pm,” Gwala said.
“According to reports, several males were sitting at the crime scene when a white Bantam bakkie stopped near them and fired several shots.
“The victims fled but two males were [wounded].
“They were transported to a medical facility, and the 26-year-old unfortunately succumbed.”
Gwala said cases of murder and attempted murder were under investigation.
“Flying squad members followed up on intelligence and arrested three male suspects believed to be linked to the shooting, one of which was wanted by Woodstock police for another attempted murder case.
“The suspects will appear in the Cape Town Magistrate’s court once they have been charged.”
