TEHRAN, Oct. 1 (Xinhua) — Two members of a separatist group, and three Iranian military personnel were killed in a Friday “terrorist” attack on a police station in the southeastern province of Sistan and Baluchestan, semi-official Fars news agency reported Saturday.

Abdul-Majid Rigi and Yaser Shah Bakhsh, members of the Jaish al-Zulm separatist group linked with al-Qaeda, were killed in clashes with Iranian military forces during the incident in the provincial capital of Zahedan, Fars reported, citing an unnamed intelligence source.

Three members of Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) and IRGC’s Basij volunteer forces died in the terrorist attack in Zahedan, according to Fars.

On Friday, rioters raided the police station in the guise of prayers, “throwing stones and flammable materials, and shooting” in an attempt to seize the station, Provincial Governor Hossein Modarres Khiabani said earlier, adding the perpetrators also set fire to other public property and vandalized banks and government centers.

He told official IRNA news agency that the military and police force made a decisive response to the attackers and the confrontation continued until the arrest of all of them.

At least 19 people were killed and 20 others injured during the attack, including police officers, the governor noted.

Jaish al-Zulm has claimed responsibility for the attack on the police station through its affiliated channels. Enditem
