NEW DELHI, Feb. 17 (Xinhua) — Chief selector at the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Chetan Sharma Friday resigned from his post following a sting operation by a local television news channel, multiple local media reported.

During the sting operation, Sharma allegedly made controversial comments about cricketers and the selection process.

“Yes, Chetan has tendered his resignation to BCCI secretary Jay Shah and his resignation has been accepted. His position had become untenable after the sting operation. He resigned voluntarily and wasn’t asked to resign,” a local news agency quoting their source in India’s cricket governing body said.

BCCI is yet to release an official statement on the matter.

Sharma’s startling allegations about the selection process and certain players triggered a row after the Zee News video footage of the sting operation went viral on social media.

The former India cricketer alleged that many players take injections to hasten their return to competitive cricket despite being 80 to 85 percent fit and also alleged that there was a difference of opinion between him and the team management over the selection of a player.

Ever since the controversial footage emerged, Sharma had not yet made any comment about it in public. Enditem
