Acting on a tip-off, counter-narcotics police recently launched operations and arrested the eight people with 122 kg of opium poppy, according to counter-narcotics director of provincial police office Mullah Mohammad Nabi Kamran.

Earlier, Afghan police smashed more than 250 acres of hashish farms in the northern Badakhshan province over the past couple of weeks.

The Afghan caretaker government has vowed to fight against illicit crops, including poppy and hashish, drug processing, and drug trafficking. Enditem
