Road accident kills 5, injures 21 in north Afghanistan

AYBAK, Afghanistan, May 2 (Xinhua) — At least five commuters were killed and 21 others injured in a road accident in north Afghanistan’s Samangan province on Thursday, a hospital source said.
The incident happened on a road in the Chapchal region along the highway linking Samangan with neighboring Balkh province when a vehicle veered off the road and overturned, leaving five dead including a child on the spot and 21 others injured, director of the provincial hospital of Samangan Osman Hamidi said.
Among the injured, 15 were reported in critical conditions, Hamidi added.
Fatal road accidents are common in Afghanistan due to poor road conditions, reckless driving, difficult terrains, overloading, overtaking and overspeeding. Enditem
