(Special for CAFS) Botswana aims to attract more long-haul carriers to boost tourism

GABORONE, April 27 (Xinhua) — Botswana’s Civil Aviation Authority (CAAB) is actively pursuing long-haul carriers to boost tourism, President Mokgweetsi Masisi said on Friday at the 39th Hospitality and Tourism Association of Botswana (HATAB) annual conference.
Speaking in Maun, about 900 km northwest of Gaborone, Masisi said the country is committed to attracting international airlines that previously served Botswana but ceased operations due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
He stressed the importance of air connectivity in growing the tourism sector, saying that tourism relies on the movement of people between destinations.
Masisi praised Ethiopian Airlines for adding the Maun-Addis Ababa route, calling it a significant development for Botswana’s tourism. He expressed gratitude to the airline for its initiative.
Additionally, Botswana is developing a re-fleeting plan for its national carrier, Air Botswana, to enhance access and improve the travel experience for business travelers, tourists and regular passengers. Enditem
